About Brian Dillon
Brian Dillon Winter swimming on a more consitsant basis 2015 to date . Trained for my first Ice Mie in 2018 and have achieved an Ice mile in each year since . Proud to be a cofounder of the Limerick Narwhals , a like minded bunch of winter swimmers which promotes and supports winter and ice swimming in our stretch of the river Shannon and where ever we go.
We train regularly in the winter ,swimming 2 to 3 times every week in open water and 2 to 3 more times at least in the pool for some speed work ( ha ha )
In December 2018 I went to the Parliament Hill Lido in London , I was very lucky as the temperature of the water on the day was 4.9 C. I swam 1800 Meters ( the pool is quite long and swam 2 more lenghts to be sure of my count ) and was delighted , the following year on my return visit I was made an honorary PHIS ( Parliament Hill Ice Swimmer ) .... and that is the kind of thing I love most about the winter swimming , it is the community of like minded people that we meet and get along so well together .
In Ireland we have a great community building and over the years I have swam Ice Miles and Nice Miles and Ice Ks with Wild Water Armagh , Eastern Bay , The 40 Ft Walrus\'s , Infinity , Sandy cove pirates , Fennit , Kilkee and Galway bay winter swimmers, Portumna winter swimmers , The Longford Orcas and I do love my weekend swims with my winter buddies The Limerick Narwhals in O Brien\'s Bridge , Castleconnell, Two Mile Gate -Killaloe , Mill Road Corbally to name a few .... aren’t we lucky .
The first time and every time you represent your country is a honourable and proud occasion for everyone , your family , your community and people near , far and wide , take pride in this . To quote Tim Bergin Canadian Ice Swimmer … “ it takes a village to raise an ice swimmer “ .
Very Proud to have represented Ireland at 3 World Championships and also the inaugural European Championships in Oradea Romania . The Irish team live for each other and to be chosen to be the Irish Captain for Molveno 2025 was certainly a proud achievement for me , the team were just excellent, full of giving and caring and also strength of purpose and preparation , beautiful and brutal the ice can be and we prepare to face this as individuals with respect to our opponent Mother Nature, but no one swims as an individual as it takes The Village .
