About Nicola Doran
I started open water swimming as part of my recovery, after a serious accident 5 years ago, that has left me disabled. I had a 180° open compound fracture of my left ankle, which left me housebound for nearly 2 years. I have developed severe spinal stenosis and have loss of power in my left leg and left arm. I cannot use my legs so in freshwater, I swim with a pool buoy.
Under the watchful eye of my coach, Ger Kennedy, I have endeavored to train, learn and become a competitive sea swimmer and ice swimmer.

I successfully competed at the 5th World Championships, in Samoen and was an honoured team member of the \\\'World Para Relay\\\' team. This unity was my greatest experience in swimming, thank you to all involved!
I completed my 1st ice mile at Woerthersee-Ice-Swim, through the support and guidance of Ger Kennedy and all the team at this incredible event. I\\\'m proud to be a part of the esteemed \\\'Ice Mile Club\\\' and I\\\'m looking forward to my future within the IISA.
My passion is to support para swimmers in the Ice and endeavour to spread the word and help others to achieve their dreams, like I have!
