About Aoife McGuinness
Winter of 2019 was my first experience of winter swimming with the Narwhals club in Limerick. We trained 2 to 3 days per week in either the river Shannon, Castleconnell, Co. Limerick or in Lough Derg, Twomilegate, Killaloe, or O’Briens Bridge, Co. Clare.
On 25th January, 2020 I competed at the IISA National Ice Swimming Championships, 1,000 metres freestyle, in Wild Water Armagh. My time was 17 minutes 37 seconds, placed 3rd lady and 6th overall competitor.
On 1st Feb, 2020, I swam at the 8th Eastern Bay Invitational International Ice Mile at Clontarf Baths. My time for the mile swim was 1,600m in 29.29, unfortunately water temperature was between 6.4 to 7 degrees celsius. I was placed 2nd lady and 6th overall competitor.
On 12th Feb, 2020 I swam my first Ice Mile in Lough Derg, Twomilegate, Killaloe, CO. Clare in 37.13 mins. Water temp was 4.8 degrees, air temp was 2.7 and windchill was -1.1.
