Swimming has always been a major part of my life. I swam competitively from the age of 7 until I was 16. I then moved on to play Water Polo for four years. I qualified as a lifeguard whilst at sixth form and spent 7 years working at my local pool in Norfolk and then Ponds Forge International Sports centre whilst at University. During this time I completed my Assistant Swim Teachers Qualification and had the pleasure of working for Omega Sports TIming at numerous International Swimming and Athletic events around the country.
After University all my sport etc took a back seat but after my 35th Birthday last year I needed to get back into sport. Always being a keen cyclist and swimmer Triathlon was where I decided to go. The aim was to complete an Ironman before my 40th birthday. Well as usual my determination and focus meant I completed that within the year and also qualified to represent Great Britain at the European Long Course Age Group Triathlon Championships in Weymouth. It was a proud day putting on the kit and representing the country!
Then it was what do I do now? I was lucky to be able to train with the guys at Yorkshire Outdoor Swimmers for my Triathlons and had watched the \\\\\\\\’\\\\\\\\’Nutters\\\\\\\\’ the previous winter. A few discussions had my mind made up and I was going to go for it! From August onwards the wetsuit was banned!
So the Journey to Ice Mile has started.
