About Susan Sherwen
I have always loved swimming, and as a toddler I headed straight for the water., so it was essential that I learnt to swim.
Being in the water is my best happy place
I lived in Taupo till I was 10. The best town in the world to grow up in, so many adventures to be had in and around the Lake and Mountains, just so beautiful.
I represented NZ as a teenager, swimming in Australia at their National and Regional Championships
At 17, I went off to USA to be part of the University of Houston swimming team for a year
I came back to NZ and went to University here
I was part of the first Waikato Women\'s water polo team until I started my family
For the next 20+ years I did very little swimming and my health deteriorated
Then I saw the Auckland Harbour Crossing Swim and I haven\'t looked back
Back in my element, the water, I am thriving, fitter and healthier than I was back in 2006, when I took the plunge again.
I have swum Lake Taupo (March 2020), Cook Strait (April 2021) and Foveaux Strait. Now I have completed three ice miles, including two extreme miles (2km and 2.1km).
So exhilarating and so grateful to be part of such an awesome community of swimmers. It is so much fun.
