At that time, I was trying to recover from/cope with Bipolar Disorder, and found that the cold water had a real magic effect to my mind. And I can honestly say, that ice swimming has changed my life!
In October 2017 the ice swimming (together with other strategies) had worked so well, that I could stop taking my medicine (10+ years of medication) and I haven\'t had any episodes of hypomania or depression since....but I need the ice 🙂
During the first years of ice swimming, I kept a journal for water- and air temperature, swim length, time in water, recovery etc to really learn how my body reacted. Slowly I built up endurance and for each year I was able to stay a little longer, swim a little longer.
My ultimate goal was The Ice Mile, and in 2019 I used the specified swims of the Jedi Polar Bear Challenge as the perfect training plan for my succesful Ice Mile attempt.
I can´t believe that I in just a few years changed my life from a doped spectator to life with no hope for the future, to an active, happy woman full of life myself.
I wrote this in 2017:
Circle of ice
A mind in despair
degraded, broken

The temptation of peace
