About Sarah coughlan
I started winter swimming in 2019 with the Narwhals club in Limerick. We trained 2 to 3 days per week in either the river Shannon, Castleconnell, Co. Limerick or in Lough Derg, Twomilegate, Killaloe, Co. Clare. I competed at the IISA National Ice Swimming Championships, 1,000 metres freestyle, in Wild Water Armagh on 25th January, 2020. In at time of 18 minutes 53 seconds, placed 6th lady out of 17. I raised EUR3,500 for homelessness in Limerick as a fundraiser.
On 1st Feb, 2020, I competed at the 8th Eastern Bay Invitational International Ice Mile at Clontarf Baths. I swam 1,600m in 31.07 minutes in water temperatures of 6.4 to 7 degrees, my first time completing a mile in cold water. Five females and 18 males completed the mile.
I swam my first Ice Mile on 12th Feb, 2020 in Lough Derg, Twomilegate, Killaloe, CO. Clare in 38.44mins. Water temp was 4.8 degrees, air temp was 2.7 and windchill was -1.1. Delighted to have accomplished this after all the hard training put in during the winter.
