About Emily Porter
In 2023, after a 15 year break from competitive swimming I joined Technosport, a Masters swim club in Ottawa, Canada and started open water swimming. Through participating in open water competitions I made a friend who swam all winter outdoors! I was so excited to learn about this fun twist on a sport I have love. Growing up on on the East Coast of Canada meant a day a the beach was a swim in the North Atlantic, so there was an element of nostalgia that reeled me in! This past winter I have had a blast swimming in the lanes carved out of the ice and learning about how to enter exit and rewarm safely after an icy swim. I also had the opportunity to go to a winter swimming festival in Vermont and test out competing in the ice water too! I\\\'m very much looking forward to participating in more cold water swimming events and am working towards completing an ice mile.
