About Verity Green
40+ y/o outdoor swimmer for over 10 years, including winter swimming for the last 5-6. Training for my channel swim in the pandemic, when the pools were shut, forced me into the cold waters much more than I normally would, just to get my metres in! It was worth it as I became the first British Deaf Woman to swim the English Channel.
Classified as a Deaf swimmer, I swam for the GB Deaf team since age 12, but a devastating last resort medical treatment led to being told I would never swim again age 17. Although no disability classification exists for the disability that I was left with, this was by far the hardest mountain I ever had to climb. Outdoor swimming and its lack of visual over stimulation, was eventually found to be much easier for me to cope with.
I’m hoping to now combine my past competition and winter training, into the world of formal ice swimming.
